ABOUT THE WINERY

In 1933, the quality of Abele Adami’s sparkling wines was so well known that he was invited to represent the entire Prosecco region at a national showcase of Italian wines in Siena. For the occasion, Adami took the highly unusual step of bottling a single-vineyard wine—the first commercial example of a vineyard-specific Prosecco—producing the first vintage of the Adami “Vigneto Giardino” Valdobbiadene Prosecco.

The Adami winery has continued to specialize in Prosecco production since that time. Abele’s son Adriano began acquiring additional vineyards to increase the winery’s production volume and broaden its scope. As a result, Adami today owns land or has well-established relationships with growers in most of the prized areas of the original Prosecco zone—which since the expansion of the Prosecco area in 2009 has been given the elevated status of DOCG. In addition to the Giardino vineyard in the hamlet (or rive) of Colbertaldo, Adami now also bottles a single-vineyard Prosecco from Col Credas in the rive (communal cru) of Farra di Soligo and from the famous Cartizze subzone. The winery also produces three blended Proseccos from the DOCG area and one (Garbèl) from the wider Prosecco DOC. In all, Adami works with around 34 different vineyards, each with its own character.

Today the company is in the hands of the third generation of Adamis, Adriano’s sons Armando and Franco, both winemakers (with the fourth generation now in training). The winery now produces more than 60,000 cases of sparkling wine from 125 acres of vineyards, a quarter owned and the rest farmed by small growers with time-honored links to the winery and sharing its commitment to quality.

WINES

ADAMI "GARBÉL" PROSECCO DOC TREVISO BRUT

Garbél is the Adami family’s entry-level Prosecco. With nearly a century of experience in the historical heart of the Prosecco production area, the Valdobbiadene DOCG, Adami began working in the extended Prosecco denomination, Treviso DOC, in order to produce an affordable everyday sparkling wine. In 2004 they began production of the Garbél Prosecco Treviso DOC. Garbél, when referring to wine, translates in the ancient local dialect to mean dry, crisp, and pleasantly tart.

ADAMI BOSCO DI GICA BRUT VALDOBBIADENE DOCG PROSECCO SUPERIORE

With a distinct freshness and range of fruit flavors, Bosco di Gica is one of Adami's best-known wines.  A brut with 10 grams of residual sugar, the wine is perfectly balanced showing more body than sweetness. The vineyards are located in the Valdobbiadene area within the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG. This rugged set of hills in the middle of Veneto is where Prosecco has its historical roots and has been made for centuries. Bosco di Gica is the name of a historical forest (bosco) where the family's vineyards are planted today.

ADAMI "DEI CASEL" VALDOBBIADENE DOCG PROSECCO SUPERIORE EXTRA DRY

Dei Casel is a classic style of Prosecco, which has traditionally been made with a bit of sweetness. This wine is classified as an extra dry, meaning that it has about 1.5% residual sugar. The vineyards are located in what is now known as the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG—more specifically in the Valdobbiadene area.

ADAMI "COL CREDAS" VALDOBBIADENE DOCG RIVE DI FARRA DI SOLIGO EXTRA BRUT

Col Credas is a relatively new addition to the Adami line as a single-vineyard Prosecco. The Col Credas vineyard was purchased in 2000 and was used as a blending component for other wines until 2011, when it was judged to be of high enough quality to release as a single-vineyard wine. The wine is technically at the extra brut level, with no detectable sweetness and sharp acidity.

ADAMI "VIGNETO GIARDINO" VALDOBBIADENE DOCG RIVE DI COLBERTALDO ASCIUTTO

Adami’s Vigneto Giardino was the first single-vineyard Prosecco ever made, in 1933, showing the potential of top-tier vineyards to make unique wines at a time when it was standard practice to blend together several different vineyards. Vigneto Giardino—literally Garden Vineyard—was the family’s first vineyard, purchased in 1920. In a natural amphitheater facing southwest, the vineyard has an excellent position for high-quality grapes. Adami uses cuttings from this vineyard in its replanting program.

ADAMI "COL FONDO" VALDOBBIADENE DOCG PROSECCO SUPERIORE SUL LIEVITI BRUT NATURE

Col Fondo has been an icon tradition of Valdobbiadene for generations and has been a part of the Adami family history since the early 1900s. Grandfather Abele, first, and then his son Adriano, bottled their sparkling wine in the spring.  When the heat came in May and June it caused the wine to re-ferment in the bottle, producing what has always been called “vin col fondo."  The resulting wine was never filtered or fined, keeping the naturally occurring sediment due to the secondary fermentation in bottle.  Franco Adami is proud to continue his family's tradition of making this same wine today.

ADAMI “CARTIZZE” VALDOBBIADENE DOCG DRY

The most prestigious vineyards in the entire Prosecco area are in a compact 260 acres (106 ha) near Valdobbiadene called Cartizze. The slopes here are impossibly steep, but the natural south-facing amphitheater produces Glera grapes of unparalleled quality. Adami’s Cartizze Prosecco is made in the typical slightly sweet style (officially designated "dry").

Adami "Col Credas" Valdobbiadene DOCG Rive di Farra di Soligo Extra Brut 2021

The 2021 Extra Brut Col Credas Rive di Farra di Soligo is more of a whisper than a shout, as nuances of sweet melon and wildflowers give way to cracked slate and gingery spice. This is savory and mineral in style, caressing the palate with silken bubbles, as citrus-tinged orchard fruits are complemented by a salty flourish that evolves toward the close. The Col Credas finishes potent and with remarkable length, leaving a lemon-rind-like concentration, even as the mouth is left watering for another sip.

Adami "Col Fondo" Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore Sul Lieviti Brut Nature 2020

Here's a fun way to interpret the versatile Glera grape. The Adami 2020 Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Sui Lieviti Col Fondo Brut Nature has a very distinctive bouquet with mature fruit, apricot, crushed stone and panettone-style baked brioche. The wine is tight and streamlined to the palate, with firm beading, but the bouquet really is special. You could push this wine for an extra year or two of bottle age, and you might see some yeasts deposits at the bottom. This is a 9,200-bottle production.

Adami "Col Fondo" Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore Sul Lieviti Brut Nature 2020

Bone-dry and crisp, this refreshing sparkler has delicate scents of fragrant white wildflowers, ripe orchard fruit and wild herbs. On the racy palate, bright acidity accompanies ripe apple, pear and lemon zest before closing on hints of hazelnut and pastry dough. Small, continuous bubbles provide the backdrop.

Adami "Vigneto Giardino" Valdobbiadene DOCG Rive di Colbertaldo Asciutto 2018

This is that rare single-vineyard vintage Prosecco from Italy’s most prestigious Prosecco district, the hilly Valdobbiadene region.  As you might expect, it is very dry and elegant, seamless on the palate with a very fine, creamy mousse and shows refined aromas of peach and apple with impressive length on the palate.  What you might not expect is the price.  It doesn’t cost a fortune and is truly one of the best values in sparkling wine this holiday season.

Adami "Col Credas" Valdobbiadene DOCG Rive di Farra di Soligo Extra Brut 2020

The 2020 Extra Brut Rive di Farra di Soligo Col Credas opens slowly in the glass, as sweet herbal tones and hints of underbrush give way to sliced granny smith apple and crushed stone. It’s silky-smooth yet savory, almost salty in character, with hints of sour lime giving way to mineral-infused orchard fruits. It leaves the palate completely refreshed, as a twang of residual acids lifts the expression, and inner florals slowly fade.

Adami "Garbél" Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut NV

The NV Brut Prosecco Garbel mixes savory and sweet with a bouquet of crushed rocks and dusty dried flowers complementing hints of green melon. This is silky in feel without a hard edge in sight, as juicy acidity enlivens its candied citrus fruits. The Garbel takes on a tropical flair through the finale, mixing hints of kiwi with vivid young mango. The final takeaway is how remarkably fresh and clean it leaves the palate. This is a total pleasure to taste.
