A native Puget Sound Lowlander, I grew up with an unusual and fortunate curiosity about food and how it comes to be on the plate in front of me. Wine eventually became a part of that curiosity fueled by my Uncle Angelo's home made Zinfandel always fermenting in the basement of his farmhouse in Puyallup, WA. This of course was a slippery slope and I soon found myself hanging out in specialty retail wine shops wondering who, how, where and what all these wines were. In the end, I found art school to be far less enticing than eating and drinking for a living and after a detour through France (another story all together) I am now firmly in the Italian camp.
When I'm not traveling around the Pacific Northwest on behalf of all the producers we represent, I'm often traveling for fun, pleasure, a change of place and routine. I routinely forage: Razor clams, nettles and mushrooms. Sometimes I camp but only in a tent; No RVs. Music? I'm an appreciator of many artists and genres but have no talent to make it or sing. Books? I love to read but fall asleep quickly so it is slow going. Film? I like the idea but I'm often disappointed. TV? Pretty much never.
At home in West Seattle, I cook for friends, garden, and spend a good part of each day thinking about my next meal. While traveling, I am an accidental collector of random things: large light bulbs, tin chocolate forms, French letters from the 1800s, bones, rattlesnake rattles, odd plant parts and old buttons or unusual tools and utensils. All items that are beautiful, strange and absolutely useful for something, I'm sure. I own many pairs of shoes and probably too many books but other than that, I believe less is more.
