Bright with strawberry, cherry, rose, wild rosemary and iron aromas and flavors, this red is expressive but also firmly structured, harmonious and elegant, lingering with a complex aftertaste of fruit, mineral and savory elements. Best from 2028 through 2047. 165 cases made, 25 cases imported.

Raspberries, cherries and sliced red plums on the nose. Incisive and medium- to full-bodied with firm, precise tannins and dark fruit throughout. Firm finish. Drink now.

DAILY WINE PICK: Polished and exhibiting cherry and strawberry flavors, with a floral hint, this red is elegant and lacy in texture. That said, there’s ample structure, which will allow this to age over the medium term. Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Colorino. Best from 2027 through 2040. 10,750 cases made, 2,352 cases imported. —Bruce Sanderson

Yes, it has stuff floating in the bottom of the bottle, the calling card for pét-nat wines, but don’t let that distract anyone unfamiliar with the process. That’s because this sparkler with the pop top cap is delightful – fresh orange flavors, lots of metallic minerality with good pétillance, and a surprising hint of gaminess in the aftertaste, a reminder that the grape is Montepulciano. It is no disrespect to say this would be a great intro wine for a younger person weaned on orange soda pop.

Opening like a veritable spice box, the 2020 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana entices with its autumnal blend of allspice, clove, and star anise before giving way to steeped plums and sage. It’s silky and refined, with supple textures and ripe red and blue fruits that swirl across a stream of vibrant acidity. It leaves a pleasantly chewy sensation while finishing with fine-grained tannins and a staining of primary concentration. Wait a full minute and hints of white pepper still linger. Wow. While richer than usual and easier to appreciate out of the gate, the 2020 is balanced for a long and steady evolution.

The 2016 Barolo Riserva Villero is an elegant, polished Barolo. It offers up a beguiling mix of orange peel, cinnamon, dried flowers, cedar, leather and sweet pipe tobacco, all framed by a discreet touch of oak. Time in bottle has softened the tannins a touch. This is beautifully done.
