This has impressive aromas of blue fruit, earth, red plums and some dried herbs. Firm and chewy, with refined fruit, a precise, racy profile and a chewy finish. Well crafted and sophisticated, with an imposing structure that requires three to five years of cellaring. An outstanding wine.

The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne is remarkably pretty, with a bright bouquet of rose petals, ground clove, dusty earth and wild strawberry. It is round and soothingly soft-textured, with a wave of saline minerals to balance as brisk acidity excites its tart wild berry fruit. This wine reverberates with zesty tension, long and intense, with edgy tannins and a saturation of primary concentration that lingers. The future is very bright, as the 2013 is just starting to come out of its shell.

The 2019 Montebello is a blend of Sangiovese, Colorino and Malvasia Nera. Dark, ample and quite potent, the 2019 packs a pretty intense punch. Black cherry, dried herbs, leather, incense and pipe tobacco saturate the palate. This full-bodied Sangiovese-based red has a lot to offer.

The 2021 Etna Rosso Contrada Sciaranuova has more depth, with notes of raspberry liqueur, hints of lavender, chestnut, and fresh forest earth. It’s refined and inviting, despite a note of gravelly rocky earth. Drink over the coming 15 -20 years. |

Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweet, deep cherry nose with savoury spice touches. Supple, rich sweet-sour cherry fruit on the palate with clayey tannins. A big mouthful of juicy fruit that is nonetheless finely balanced. Ready now.

The 2022 Soave Classico I Palchi wafts up with a smoky, expressive blend of rosemary, gingery spice and musky citrus complicating crushed apples. It is silken and opulent in feel, enveloping the palate with ripe pit fruits, coming across as weighty and rich yet wonderfully balanced. Nuances of grapefruit mix with inner sage and hints of candied lime as the 2022 tapers off with excellent length yet remains wonderfully fresh.

A damp, cool stoniness defines the nose, which has aromas of blackberries, soil, herbs, crushed rock and pepper. The palate is peppery and earthy, but continuing notes of tart berries provide a cooling balance, creating a delightfully unexpected expression of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
