A complex, outstanding Chianti Rufina with savory grapefruit peel, tar, white pepper, dry earth, new leather and hints of mineral and fine musk. Pretty full-bodied and minerally on the palate with vertical, close-knit tannins extending to a long, savory finish. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Cabernet Franc Collio entices with a uniquely spicy bouquet that evokes Indian curries, incense and pipe tobacco before revealing a core of crushed raspberry. This is like pure silk on the palate, yet with a stimulating thrust of acidity that motivates it tart wild berry fruits. Pepper-tinged inner florals and saline minerality are left to mingle through the finale, as the 2019 finishes lightly structured and distinctly savory. This is Patience will be necessary.

The library-release 2012 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana 10 Anni is dark and earthy in character. Crushed fall leaves and undergrowth nuances blow off to reveal mentholated black currants. This is rich and fleshy in feel, with saline-tinged acids motivating its tart wild berry fruits. It finishes with rounded tannins and wonderful length, along with a bitter twang and hints of balsam that linger. The late-release 2012 displays a beautiful evolution that’s taken place in bottle.
