ABOUT THE WINERY

Located in the picturesque region of Maremma in southwestern Tuscany, the Ugo Contini Bonacosi Winery is a hidden gem nestled among rolling hills and vineyards in Roccalbegna. This charming area, situated 43km from Grosseto at an altitude of 522m, is spread between four villages: Cana, Vallerona, Triana, and Santa Caterina. Roccalbegna's hilly terrain and limestone-clay soils create optimal conditions for grape cultivation. At the same time, its proximity to the coast ensures warm summers and mild winters, allowing for a long growing season.

Ugo Contini Bonacossi, the grandson of Count Ugo Contini Bonacossi of Capezzana, followed his family's winemaking legacy after studying viticulture and oenology in Florence. Despite initially pursuing a career in beer production, Ugo's passion for winemaking drew him back to his roots. In 2015, Ugo purchased 5 ha of uncultivated land in Roccalbegna, divided into two different plots – Bandita and Vignali and planted native Tuscan grape varieties, focusing on organic farming practices and minimal intervention winemaking.

Ugo Contini Bonacosi Winery released their first wines in 2021, from the 2019 vintage, including Ughetto, a red wine primarily made from Sangiovese, and Armancione, a field blend of native white grapes. Embracing the natural wine movement, the winery prioritizes sustainability and authenticity in its winemaking practices. Certified by Bio Agri Cert, the winery farms organically, uses native yeasts, and avoids added sulfites and oenological additives. With a commitment to environmental stewardship, Ugo Contini Bonacosi Winery strives to produce wines that truly reflect the unique terroir of Roccalbegna and showcase the rich winemaking heritage of the Maremma region.
